w124 window rattle when open/partly open...

I get this annoying window rattle when I close the doors with the window down or partly down. It's quite irritating. I know my way around the door innards it's just that I do not know what was in there when it came from the factory... maybe i'm missing a few bumper stops or something... anybody with an exploded view of everything in there?

I have had similar rattles before, not entirely sure how one appeared. The first bit I had rattle was one of the slides that allows the lift arm to raise and lower the window (has the plastic insert that moves horizontally). Perhaps the previous owners had the window replaced at some time. It was really random to find an extra piece hiding in the bottom of the door frame.
Also, I have had a rattle due to having a rocker panel coming loose. Albiet this was a more plastic rattle, it was just a clip that pulled loose. A firm press and it was reattached.
However, my passenger door has a similar rattle at what you describe now, perhaps padding or travel stops. Did you ever solve the problem?

Yeah, I am not far from doing that myself, although, I find some of my car's other quirks to be ever more annoying. It could be a while before I tear apart any of my doors again.

One other thought that came to me; there may not be any loose bolts (such as on the window lift unit, still possible though) and there may instead be some play in the sliding mechanism that lifts the window. I'm just going off of the mental image from a couple of years ago when i replaced a window regulator in my w124. I don't recall there being much to guide/hold the window once it retracts into the door so my money is on something that is loose. Sorry to ramble.

If you ever your problem please give me a shout.

The rubber seals at the top of the door that stop water from entering the door get hard with age. When a window is half open and the door closed the window will rattle. Had this problem with by 124 and fixed it by replacing these seals.
