Sam, don't get the flip key with just a flashlight. There's aftermarket flip key units for the W201 and W124 that have remote unlocking and alarms.

Do you have a source for these uncut flip keys with alarm and remote?

Thanks

I have a 1985 300TD and a 1990 300D. The keys are different. The 85 is cut like a normal, 2-sided key, but the 90 is cut along the sides with a solid segment in the middle. The 85 key will fit into the 90 slot, but the 90 key will not fit in the 85 slot.

So if my cars are typical, it could fit a w123 or a w124, but not both. The key blanks are different for these, at least for the Diesels.

I purchased mine directly from Germany, but here's a similar set for sale on E-Bay. A company in Taiwan called Samisen makes a kit as well, but I've never seen a US distributor.

here's another idea to compliment this.
for 179, you can have a remote starter, remote door locks, ignition kill, all that to work in conjunction with your existing alarm system, two remotes, life time warranty and installation included for a DEI viper remote start system.
why bother with this kit and installation on top of it and end up with only remote lock/unlock when you can have everything i mentioned above for less the price ?
just an idea.

i'm in NJ so that's where I got it installed.
it depends upon the installer. I spoke to an installer at best buy who knew how to do it, and most of the private installation shops work on the benz as well.
all you have to do is call the shops in your area and find out who would do the installation on the benz. do a search in this forum on remote starter and you'll find out that there are many who have this installed from different places.
good luck.

Mercedes Keys

HRP,

Trust me ... YOU do not want any Aftermarket Keys for your 124.128 300D !!!

The Factory Keys Are STEEL and almost All the aftermarket keys are not!
(ANYTHING BUT STEEL,leaves metallic shaving inside the Ignition Mechanism,
Thereby Accelerating the wear on the internal "Leaves" inside the mechanism!)

Any dealer can order VIN specific keys for your 300D,
or you can call the Classic Center in California and order them for slightly less.

The DEI units will work,But there's some sort of Delay type relay (For Glow Plugs) that must be used for remote starting.

Don't let them Cut wiring inside or near the Driver's footwell.
(Slack A$$ installers will follow the DEI directions and you won't be happy!)

The proper install position is underneath the rear seat.
(LOCK/UNLOCK Vacuum pump is there [On Passenger side]
AND the Comfort/Convenience control module is on the driver's side.)

Do you know that you can Lower/Raise the Windows with the Key in:
The Driver's or Passenger's and Trunk Locksets?

This is ps2cho's post on the Viper.

(That I kinda Horned in on)

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/314905-300te-alarm-system-viper-1002-install.htm

But if you'll look at JD's instructions on locations you'll understand.

M14/2 is the Lock/Unlock Vacuum Pump under the rear seat.

I haven't yet figured out how to use the "constant" signal when depressed
on the remote to open/close the Windows/Sunroof.
