Question CLK alarm sound

I just got a 2006 clk convertible.I cannot get a sound from the anti theft.
When I lock or unlock, or I voluntary set the alarm the lights blinks but there is no sound whatsoever. The steering wheel horn works fine. I checked out the fuses #8,9,41, they all are good.
What or where else should I check next?
Thanks
Marcel , Charleston,SC

What happens if you press the panic button on the remote?

The system doesn't make noise when you're just arming or disarming.

You can also leave a window down, then set the alarm. Then reach in and unlock the door and open it. If it starts howling, it's fine.

It sounds like the Alarm siren has failed.

Thanks to all, for your great suggestions. As earlier mentioned, no sound , when I press the panic on remote, same thing , all lights blink but silently.
Could you help me locate this siren, tell me what it looks like,I could connect a hot wire, to see if it is works.
It could also be disconnected?
Again. thank you for your help.

Cool

WHunter,
Thanks for a great schematic and pictures.Without it I would never have found it.They sure make it hard to reach and I understand why. I can see it behind and below the right headlight. I am debating for the easiest access. From the top seems almost impossible without removing a lot of parts in the way. Do you know ,if ,from the bottom is a better option?
Is there a service manual explaining the service or removal and replacement of the siren?
On the schematic it shows some small parts, either under the hood or in the trunk. Could any of theses be failing (likely) and prevent the system from working?
As usual any help will be very appreciated,Thanks
Marcel

With your extra information, I agree it sounds like the siren has failed. It has its own battery and perhaps that is the issue, but it's a complete unit, so you replace the whole thing.

Good luck.

Remove the right front wheel well liner. You'll see it.

Thank you for your great input. It sounds like I may have to bite the bullet and replace it with a new one. Although I have some concern, and I would appreciate your opinion about the on board computer:
I have read some horror stories about alarm out of control, with a mind of its own, or simply messing up other components thru the comp, just by unplugging or plugging a new siren,or just replacing a fuse and, so on. Also a couple a weeks ago the car comp. warn me about a brake bulb needing to be replaced, I did and the warning went off. Great! Now,I am puzzle why, an important component such as anti theft device was never brought by the comp 's info center? Is it possible there is an other cause for this problem? Could somebody have messed up the system? In a way I am concern about opening a can of "worms". Being a convertible, I think the alarm should work properly,
is the clk a popular targetfor thieves?
Great to read your comments,Thanks
Marcel

If I understand correctly, you're asking why there was no warning message concerning the alarm system as there was for the light bulb?

The MB engineers are the only ones who can answer that definitively. IMHO, the driver should be alerted ASAP if an exterior light isn't working. That's why the lights are continuously monitored for proper operation. The same is true for the alarm siren, but it was decided that instead of alerting the driver by means of a message in the instrument cluster a fault code would be stored, which would be found during an SDS diagnosis.
