FSS reset
Hi!
Wanted to ask some assistance regarding resetting my FSS. '99 ML320 changed oil myself (w/ FSS reading at -200) but could not reset the FSS. Tried following the instructions as follows How to reset FSS after an oil change turn ignition key to position 2 press reset button twice within 4 seconds turn ignition back to pos 1 press and hold the reset button turn ignition to pos 2 keep pressing the reset button until buzzer sounds and new miles display appe Did it a few times but it just would not work. Appreciate the help/advice. Thanks, Artie |

Make sure the driver's door is closed. I have heard this makes a difference though I haven't proved it. LMK

FSS reset
Hi Scott,
Thanks for the help. Just tried to do it again but nothing happened. In the instructions manual, it said that after approximately 10 secs. there will be a buzzer or an audible sound and the FSS will be reset back to 10000 mi. No buzzer. Anyway, appreciate the assistance. Artie |

Scott,
By the way, the manual says Position "0". I did follow the instructions on the manual but got no results. Is there another way to reset it (instead of bringing it in to the dealership?) Thanks, Artie |

Artie:
One alternate method of doing this (don't ask me why it's different): (Yes, door closed. It's required for the cars, unsure if it's required for ML, but it's no big deal either way, so get in and close the door) Key to position 2 (ON) Push reset button (trip meter button) twice and time or distance remaining will be displayed. HOLD the button down and keep it held down, then cycle the key to OFF, then back to ON (still holding down the reset button!), keep holding the reset button down for at least 10 seconds, it will beep and the FSS will show 10,000. Let me know how this works for you. It's only a slight difference. Gilly

FSS reset
Hi Dan!
Tried what you recommended and I GOT 10,000 MILES AGAIN!!! Thanks for the help! Scott, thanks for the help too. I am sure that for other models the instructions in the manual works too. You were right Dan, the 'alternative method' works!! FYI, I've got around 66k on my '99 ML320 and she sure drives great! Had to change my set of tires though because it was kinda 'getting there'. Am using the Michelin LTX 4x4 now. It's a little bit of a harder ride than the original Grand Treks but if you're not so meticulous, you really wouldn't feel the difference. Good traction. Was advized that the LTX's are good in the snow too. Hey thanks again Dan. Artie |
