86 300E tranny
I have a friend and her tranny is going out, the 86 300E has a 722.3 tranny? Right? I found a used tranny out of a 89 190E, its a 722.4. Will this work? I know I will have to get the drive shaft because the 722.4 is a shorter tranny than the 722.3, just want to make sure it will work. Thanks.

The transmissions are very similar inside though shift points in valve body will be different.but what about the torque convertor and bellhousing ?

If it comes off a car with the same engine it will work, and as mentioned shift points might well be slightly different. If it came from a diesel, quite different, but probably still liveable, driveable. Electronic hookup could be different. Use your eyes and a caliper type measuring device to quickly measure all mounting holes, shafts and splines. I would say it will work. What I say is free, is an opinion and has no guarantee.

The flange that connects the tranny to the flex disk must be changed.
The speedo drive is different between 722.3 and 722.4. You will need to get a speedo from a W124 260e. (260e's are equipped with the 722.4) The 722.4 is meant for light weight use. It's capacity for handling torque is much reduced compared to a 722.3 I would not put a 722.4 from a W201 into a W124
