Under car engine cover
Does the engine compartment under car cover help with the engine cooling temps? Thanks.

Not really. That's controlled by the cooling system. It serves to streamline the underbody, reduce noise and limit dirt and oil transfer.

I wasn't sure, because my 91 300CE is running noticeably warmer than the 93 300E. The 91 dos not have the underneath cover in place.
Thanks, Bdbenz

I've always been a fan of keeping the belly pan in place, but you would probably be hard pressed to find one of these cars with it installed.
It MIGHT be that at highway speed it would have a small, probably unnoticable or immeasurable improvement in cooling efficiency, but not enough to start trying to chase down a belly pan. You would be surprised how much cooling is accomplished on a hot day by the air that passes along the sides of the engine. In the days of hot rodding model A's and early Fords with the hoods off on a hot day, they were DEFINITELY harder to keep whatever engine that had found it's way in there, cool with the four piece hood gone.

The belly pans serve as noise capsules and streamliners for the floor, The cooling problem is usually a problem with the radiator/condenser/fan. Bugs/leaves in the condenser fan shroud bottom will effectively cover 30% of the condenser and hence radiator. If the fan clutch is not working like it should, the engine wont cool down.

Thanks to all, I think I will start looking at the fan and clean off the radiator. I installed a new oem water pump and radiator flush in April. It is continually running at 105. Not alarming but 1O degrees more than my other two. The elec fans work, but I will check to see if they are running when they should. Appreciate the input.
