w140 electrical question...

If all the ECUs were removed... will placing the ignition/key in the "on" position still power all the accessories? Power windows/seats/lights etc etc? I'm making a diesel transplant... getting rid of all the ECUs. Have not placed a battery in the car for years after the flood. Just wanted a quick answer before I buy a battery. Thanks.

I'm actually contemplating installing a non-MB engine/tranny combo. It's a matter of availability. It'll be an all mechanical deal... zero computers. The engine will be a completely independent system. Just need to be able to start it and have all the accessories to work. Been hit by two floods already... hating it. I'm in survival mode and I just need the car to function.

That would be a major improvement in the W140. Good luck.

That's the plan. An all mechanical w140 with hopefully all electrical convenience stuff working. Ac just needs to turn on without all that auto climate jazz. As well as the windows, lights, power locks, door assist etc. Push button starting and glow plug manual switch. The gauges are what i'm worried about. I wanna use the stock gauge faces, will probably hack up working gauges to fit behind the existing gauge faces. So i'm looking for a speedo and tach alternative. Are there available stand alone units? They're just magnetic sensors right?
