W201 Vent Output Levels Diminished?

Hey everyone,

Just figured I'd inquire. I noticed today on my way up to work, the center and side vents on my 190E seem to have less air coming out of them. The dampeners are fully opened. I didn't feel any air coming out of the defroster vents either. The side vents have been diminished for some time now, but the center vent now seems to be much less than I remember it..Even on full blower.

Does the 190E have a center vent vacuum pod? Where could my extra air be going?

As I found with my W124...the center vent pod was working, but not to its full potential. You may find yours is the same issue. Its working, but only partially opening.

Mine held vacuum only up to a certain point and no matter how much more I pumped with the mityvac it wouldn't go higher.

I got a good 30% more air volume out when I changed it.

I am not totally sure, but I think the W201 doesn't have the vacuum pods. When you just lift the center vent lever it opens it up for air to come through. The more you open it the more air you get.

The 201 HAS vacuum pods.

They are not talking about the outer center vent flap controlled by the lever.

On my 190e with the climate control turned off there is no air flow from any vents. The center vent is used for the a/c. The left and right vents are not. However with the a/c off if you open the center vent lever it will let in outside air. The a/c function on the climate control regulates the cooling, but still the lever has to be open on the center vents. Beings that is the case I always felt that there wasn't a pod on the center vents. I have never had the dash off on the ones I have owned so I am not sure. There is ways a lot of trash can build up in the space between the the back of the engine compartment on them. If you always let them set outside, things can clog up on you. Why you are loosing capacity could be related to this possibly. Even the electrical componets wiring is quite vulnerable in this aspect too I feel. Like underneath the fuse box.

To update this thread. I did find my problem.

Turned out the evaporator was completely caked with muck! I cleaned that sucker off and BAM beautiful flow of air!

If you remove the wiper, open up the blower case, the evap is right there. I just used my air compressor and air gun.
