Euro 95 E320,the good,bad and ugly?

Greetings from Virginia,
Looked at this car today, seemed to be in really good condition cosmetically, interior looked good, tires good, had the Euro badge on the grill. Owner asking $3995, 150k miles. Your opinions would be appreciated.

Oops, that should read E320-

Pricing algorithm - W124

I think the rust free US or Canadian E320 1995 with under 120 K miles worth 6K,

All maintenance supposed to be up-to date.
Evap
head gasket (may be OK till 180K miles)
wiring resolved and documented.

For each outstanding issue - reduce the price of the problem ()

* Reduce 500 for any 30K verified miles
* Add extra 1 K for confirmed buying from the original owner.

* Reduce 2K for the total lack of maintenance records.
* Reduce 500 to 1 K for non-structured and non-frame rust ( corners of sun-roof, wheels, gas opening)
* Reduce any extras on-going things (AC compressor, AC controller, dashboard issues,Windows opening, Interior condition, Catalytic(700), springs / suspension(400 per axle))
* Reduce 1 K for transmission issues.
* Reduce 500 for overheating airflow issues due to fan / fan clutch, if car was not driven too much over 100C,
* Reduce another 800 for overheating due coolant flow issues, above the thermostat replacement: ( radiator clogged, waterpump)
* Reduce 500 for the original fuel lines.
* Reduce 1/2 of the cost of the issue for the common Maintenance due : tires, spark plugs ( this is not diesel discussion), brakes, transmission oil, flex disk, coolant, brake fluid and brake lines changes due soon.

PS> you can easy end up with negative value - those cars to be avoided)

agreed for the most part...

but even with the service records...you are looking at a 3400 car...

wiring harness is likely to be replaced.

transmission fluid change is the key.... tranny will go 250 k with good tranny service

I think, you should be able to find one with under 100k like maybe no more than 80K on it for that price. Possibly a one or no more than a two owner with good maintenance records on it. You will do some searching, but there out there!

If I was offered $4k or less for any of my 3 W124s, I'd not be interested in selling, and my lowest mileage is 145K. For that kind of money, there's nothing out there there I'd rather drive.

If the OP car is nice and has a history, it's still a lot of car for not a lot of money. Pay a premium for a nice car up front, and you'll never regret it.

Jim

But.... 18 years in salty Philly takes it's toll on a car. Note the one rust bloom they show, and no under car photos.

I had a 400E from Pittsburgh two years ago that looked as nice as this car on the outside, and EVERY fastener, brake and fuel line and detachable component under the car was rusty. Calipers frozen, brake and fuel lines leaking, rear subframe rusted out, yada, yada, yada. Salt ruined the car, but the body itself and the paint still looked great, very little rust on the bodyshell itself. Be very careful with salt belt W124s.

I much prefer my rustfree, garaged, southern W124 trio.....
