How to diagnose a bad fuel pump relay - 91 560 SEL

My car stalls intermittently in park or in gear. I jumped pins 7 and 8 on the fuel pump relay and the problem disappears. I wanted to make sure that I am not missing anything as I do not want to misdiagnose the problem. Is this jumper test on the fuel pump relay a definite indication of a bad relay or are there any more tests that are needed to make sure there is no misdiagnosis of the problem?
