Harmonic Balancer Service Campaign released 4/5/05

I would like to know if I should check into this. I recently purchased a 2000 E430 4MATIC with 119,000 miles on it.

After considering my prior great experiences with the 300E 4MATIC and 400E, and my growing appreciation for these vehicles, I have decided to be proactive in maintenance and control of what I can to see if I can extend the 253,000 and 150,000 I have gotten out of the 300E and 400E, respectively, to this vehicle to add 200,000 more!

I've read up on what problems to expect and have started my list of priorities to look into. At present, the car is in really good condition.

I only have a trim piece to re-set onto the frame as it is missing a couple of the plastic anchor / plugs / fasteners.

I will then have the transmission to look into. No noticeable issues (at all) with the shifting / transmission as smooth as the 300E ever was. But, I will likely get it serviced if it needs it.

The car idles with a couple of bumps (feels like missing very subtly) sometimes, so I am going to have the plugs looked at and change them or have them changed, depending on if I can do this job myself.

I am also of the impression that the "spring perch" rusting / corrosion failure problem does not affect this vehicle, though that could be wrong, because I have not had confirmation of this.

I also came across a notice (from 2005) that affected all M112 V-6 and M113 V-8 engines from 1998 to around 2001 on some cars. I do not know if this applies to my car, but, it involves the harmonic balancer and I understand that if this item is bad it could really damage the engine.

How can I find out if (1) I have this harmonic balancer PN# 112 035 00 00 or 112 035 06 00; and (2) whether it has been changed or needs to be changed now.

As far as my list goes, I am putting this as top priority because I don't want to damage the engine's integrity.

Any thoughts or advice would be helpful. Also, if you could be kind enough to point to the proper forum for me to post this in, if this is not an appropriate forum for this post. Thank you very much, in advance.

Give the nearest MB dealer a call and ask them to check for any open Service/Recall campaigns. All they need is the VIN number.

Thank You

I appreciate the response. I have been really happy with the 2000 4Matic E430 so far. It is just incredible to drive (although I must confess my wife took it from me shortly after I got it!!! I will bring it in for service soon and check out the list of any notices with respect to this particular car. Thanks, again.
