Limp mode P0730

I tried to post before but i messed up. Here i go again. I have a 1997 e420 and its in limp mode. When i start it up it makes a zinging noise and slowly goes quite. If i rev the engine it goes zinggg ( hard to explain). When i drove it home in limp mode iit made a constant zinging noise. I pulled the codes with my reader and it gave me a P0730 incorrect gear ratio. I tried to look it up but it says its a generic code. The car has 110,000 miles on it and the black cap is still on the dipstick tube so i know it hasnt been serviced . Any help would be greatly appreciated . Thank you all Alawens

With the V8 in front of it and no service or updates in 110K, its likely toast.

1st step is removing the trans pan, most likely too late.

The "hard to explain" sound part is easy to fix...take your cellphone and record the sound and either post it as a video or take it to your favorite MB tech and have him listen.

Either way, someone with the right amount of experience should be able to tell your it's "Toast" or "Wundervoll!"

Inexperience, on my part, says that not enough oil is getting to the main bearings on the crankshaft...but then, I'm no expert. I slept at a "Sleep Inn" last night.

Really!
