C230 Interior light console problem

When I open the doors the interior lights will come on sometimes, sometimes they don't. If they come on they'll stay on for five minutes. Usually, I'll just have to turn them off manually, unless I'm exiting the car, in which case they'll stay on for 5 minutes or more. Do I need to replace the entire interior lighting/sunroof console or is there a timer remotely controlling the lights? Thank you in advance for any assistance!

Have you checked all 4 door contact switches?

Yes. What MB DOC said. I think the 5 min timer is how long it leaves the lights on if you leave the door open. It thinks the door is open. Since you say it doesn't do anything when you get in the car, I would suspect the drivers door switch.

Update!

I believe that you both may be right. I purchased a used control panel and that didn't remedy the problem. Now the question is, how do I replace the switch? Is it in the door or behind the kick panel? The reason that I ask, is that I don't see one in the door sill. Any help would be appreciated!

There is a door contact switch behind each of the door strikers.
The part on the car that the lock grabs on to.
