Brake Line Size

Good morning y'all

I have leaky brake line, LH rear on type 208 CLK 430. It seems leak somewhere around gas tank.

Now I start to see red display on dashboard, complaining of my favorite word bremsefluesseigkeit so I fill with bottle, but it is how you say inelegant.

I hate brakes but there is too much traffic for only the gaspedal here.

I look under car and looks like one long thing from the rubber line fitting to the ABS modulator behind front headlight. LOL as kids say.

So I think cut old line around rear seat / foot area, make fitting, put union, and buy premade line with fittings and bend it around to fit.

Does anyone know what size is line? I see some mentions of 3/16 line with M10x1,0 fittings, bubble flare (make with cheap Chinese double-flare tool?). But I see others talking of 6mm and who knows what.

Any advice?

Thanks

You mean the rubber hoses are not leaking but the metal line is?

Jawohl!

I guess it is funny how things are depending on how north we are on the continent... in Florida, so hot, nothing rusts, but rubber is at risk. I don't think I have ever seen a problem with a rubber line, but always the steel lines rust and leak and burst.

I went to parts store and bought a 3/16 x 60" line with fittings, guy gave me two, one "Japanese" and one "American" as the fittings were different, one big, one small. He looked hard for a union (blue) that fit the big one. I say, well, car is German... BRD is closer to America than Japan, but was allied with Japan during the war

Then I get home and notice the unions of either one fit on either one... the fitting threads are the same, just the hex on one is bigger than other, maybe one is 10mm and the other 13 ()

The weird thing was the bill. Somehow the cost of the lines with two male fittings was $0.89 each (I thought, great!) but the cost of the lesbian union was $4.95. Big thing little money, little thing big money...
