i wish i had an owner's manual. want to change out manual transmission lubricant in 83 240d. don't know if it calls for hypoid,atf or engine oil. would someone with access to a manual please provide me with the recommended lubricant type and quantity. thank you very much.

The manual is out of date--it recommends using motor oil, but Mercedes Benz has changed that recommendation in their "approved product" sheets.

If you take it to an MB dealer to change the manual transmission fluid, they'll use Mobil1 ATF.

There are two different transmissions listed: 716.0 takes 1.6 liters, and 716.21 takes 1.3 liters. I think the 83 is the latter, but not totally sure.
