Help! My Rubber Donut escaped!
OK, so I'm attempting to replace all of the small OD heater hoses on the engine side of the firewall. This all began when the Prestone antifreeze back flush "T" fitting failed spewing antifreeze. So, I ordered up the new three way branch from Mercedes Benz. It has been nothing but up hill trying to get this three way heater hose to fit properly. I ended up having to take off the large OD rubber hose that was supplied and reinstall with a three inch long heater hose to attach to the center heater hose fitting on the firewall. NOW, the very small branch rubber line that braches off to the right is being a bi** to get on. After arm wrestling it, the rubber donut washer that protects the metal line going into the firewall from vibration has backed itself into the BACK side of the firewall! I'm thinking some type of long reaching dental tool to reach down through the small hole in the screen that protects the back side of the firewall but still allows screw drivers and/or sockets on long extensions to reach through.
I'm thinking a long dental tool to use to reach down and grab that little son of a bi** rubber donut and drag it back out so that I can attempt to reinstall it might work. Any and all ideas are appreciated. This is on the 1991 560SEL. Last edited by HuskyMan; 07-25-2013 at 10:25 PM. |

OK, I went into the area behind the firewall where the rubber "donut" washer went. I used a very long screw driver and inserted it through the work hole in the wind screen. Using the screw driver, I managed to push the rubber donut aka dong completely back through to the front side. From there I managed to reinsert it properly into the hole in the firewall which holds the small OD metal heater hose "branch" circuit. This rubber washer insulates the small OD metal heater hose branch hose from road vibration. So, now my rubber dong has now been repositioned. Thank goodness!!
