190E steering not responsive .

As posted I just purchased this 1991 190E 2.6 Automatic . Has 76,300 orig miles on it. Believe 2 owners . Last one owned for 10 years. I am having a couple of issues with the way it drives and any input is appreciated.

1) I did just change and partial flush of power steering fluid because of this, added new psf, and mann filter. The steering is not responsive best way I can describe it. The old fluid was black so my guess is it was not changed in a good 10 years but who knows...(other filters have been changed, air filter looks new) In a turn the front wheels do not come back on their own all the way. Maybe 3/4 way only. The car does need a new set of tires but cant see that effecting this issue this much. It does not handle like a car that was built to rival a BMW..

Any comments or questions are appreciated....

2) The engine sounds nice and smooth but at highway speeds I can hear the rear end drive a little louder than I think it should be. Not sure how to describe this better but I can hear the wheels turning sort of loudly ...It is not so bad but I think it's louder than it should be...

Thanks,

Austin.... ( I will be stripping driveway paint peel soon as association approves us)

What tires are on the car?

Brand?
Size?
Speed rating?

All the tires are old. All 185/65/15's which is spec

Fronts are Republic, Left worn 80% Right worn and slick on inside.

Rears are mixed brands also 185/65/15s Right rear is a good spare
LEft rear is off brand and worn 50% has dry rot.

If this is strong possible reason I hope so. I am planning to get a set of 4 new Falken SN211 tomorrow or Tuesday (asap) .

What...no speed rating? Make sure you at least get H rated or better tires. Do not use S or T rating.

SLK... I thought you would comment if the current tires are why I am having the steering difficulties describe above. I really don't hit high speeds over 75 or 80mph tops for any length of time at all even on open roads. ( The new tires I plan to get are 80,000 mile wty Sincera Touring SN211 | Falken Tire

A bird told me may be ball joints. Coincidentally, just got back from a short drive to supermarket and on day 2, I am getting the squeeking in both front ends. There are 2 new Mercedes ball joints in the trunk. I guess they ever got around to it.

I guess I head to mechanic for install bj, and also check out rest of what is going on underneath.

Not really, read your owners manual. Mine came from the factory with V rated and that's what is stated in the manual. Most shops won't install anything less than H rated. But it's your car so buy what you want.

Yeah, sounds like your ball joints are worn. Good luck.
