Hot oil in 2.3-16v
Hi all,
The oil temp gauge on my 2.3-16v had been creeping up slowly, and when it began to cross 120 degrees I decided to replace the oil thermostat. After replacing it (one PITA of a job), my oil is running just as hot! I am at 120 degrees, and nothing seems to be getting to the oil radiator. What am I missing? Talk to me all of you 16 valvers! tkamiya, the 16v models have a oil temp gauge which is located in the center console.

The oil cooler should start getting hot at 95C oil temp. IF not then the gauge/sending unit must be OFF. The oil filter thermostat is the only control!
Do you have an infra-red temp gun to see how hot the oil filter is?? Or maybe borrow one to see.

I'll ask around, but I don't have access to one right now. Is there any way I could have loaded the new thermostat incorrectly? Didn't I see a second 'valve' of some sort in the oil filter housing?
I'll keep everybody posted Dan Rotigel |
