What modern ATF is OK for '72 220?
I've been helping a neighbor revive his '72 220, which has been stored in a garage for 18 years. It's running pretty well now and he
wants me to change the fluid in the automatic transmission. What type of ATF would be OK for this? 30 years ago there used to be type A and type F, now there's DexronII,DexronIII, Dexron/Mercon....etc. I've heard rumors of modern replacement fluids causing problems in one of these older transmissions. Thanks in advance, Mark

That is a 220/8 car & Dextron is the correct trans fluid.

The current title for Dexron is DexronIII/Mercon so I'll have to go with that.
Thanks, Mark
