Monowiper picture with cover off
Hi all - Can someone share a picture of the monowiper - for example on a 1995 EClass - with the cover off? I have read here that one can lube up a pin and get extended life out of a wiper motor that might be heading to the graveyard. Also....how does one get that cover off the wiper assembly?

Monowiper
I just did this on my 91 300e not too bad but you have to take apart all the trim and stuff between the windshield and engine bay. I think there are posts on it. Once this is off remove the mono wiper assembly from the car. Remove the wiper blade assembly first by removing the plastic cover at the base of the wiper blade pull outward at the base of the cover and pull out and away from the bottom then remove the Allen screw and pull off the wiper blade assembly. Don't let it wack the windshield it is spring loaded
Once it is off the car work first from the back side On the linkage side remove the nut holding the linkage to the shaft of the wiper assembly. Mark position first. I then used a gear puller to pull the linkage from the shaft. Then pull out the mono wiper assembly after moving the wiper to what would be vertical on the windshield and remove 3 philips head screws behind the articulating mechanism(the blob at the base of the wiper blade) remove the cover to reveal the mechanism. I greased these metal parts with wheel bearing grease I greased the nylon gear outside of the mechanism with lithium grease. There is another post somewhere on peach parts showing this with pictures. I read that some vehicles have a cover that can be removed with the assembly still on the car. The grease becomes pretty hard after 24 years |

remove the little rectangle cover where the wiper looks like it lenghtens - it will have wear marks on the plastic - it flips open just like any other cars wiper. undo the 5mm allen screw remove the wiper arm with your fingers pop the turtleshell cover from the eccentric system and slide off the shaft. clean and lube install in reverse.

Some vintage wipers will not open up the clam/turtle shell. I replaced my '95 with an earlier vintage wiper from a boneyard, don't know what the year was, and it won't open up. So a year or two after I had installed it, it was slowing down, and I carefully drilled a hole near the bottom of the clamshell, just a tad larger than a red spray tube, so I could blast white lithium spray grease into the internals of the clamshell. Yes I'm sure I got a few shavings of metal in there, but no big deal. plugged it with a dab of silicone after blasting it, and it's been fine for a couple years. Speeded up the wiper nicely.
