Door lock removal?

Hi there,
I've bought a '89 190 Mercedes a few weeks ago, and I did not get keys to the doors, only for the ignition. I talked to the previous owner, but neither him, nor the the one from who he bought the car has its key for the doors and the boot, they all used only the remote for locking/unlocking the car.
The remote controller is now broken, it does not lock the car, only opens it.
So now I can only lock the doors if I push down the drivers side button through the rear door, and when the central locked, I shut the door. Then open with the remote.

Needless to say, that I'm quite afraid that I will soon lock myself out, if my broken remote will once not open the doors, so I want keys for my existing door locks.

As I really don't have a lot of money to spend on this, I first wanted to try creating keys for the existing locks, it can be done cheaply by lock masters, but I need to remove the lock cylinder from the door.

But I just can't get it out. I couldn't follow the factory manual, as it guides me to insert and rotate the key clockwise 45 degree to get it out, as I do not have the key.

I removed the door card, but couldn't access the back of the cylinder.

I was also told that if I cant turn the key in the cylinder hole, I can grab the whole thumb and rotate it, but it's out only about half an inch, so I cannot rotate it.

I also tried locking-unlocking while pulling out to no avail.

Do you guys have any idea, how I could get this little beast out without damaging?

Thanks in advance for any advise!

You should be able to order an original key by going to a Mercedes dealer and giving them the VIN number of the car. Then no need to remove locks.

Really? That would be awesome, thanks for the tip!!!

BTW, I could fix my alarm system, I stripped down the cover under the steering wheel, and found my alarm module from 1995, it's an Enforcer 100B type, I have found its service manual, and detected, that the connection to the central lock is loosy, so I soldered it back and it works perfectly!!! )))

But I need to open my doors with a key, just in case, so I will try to get it from MB.

Cheers,

Just a heads up. When you go to the dealer, either fax them your registration ahead of time or bring it with you. They won't do anything without that proof.

moire76, recommend buying a new ignition cylinder too ... so one key works everything. Not sure why anyone would install an oddball ignition cylinder in their car, other than to save a few dollars.

Been there, done that!

I was really impressed by the dealer'scustomer support, it can only be MB.
This car was already in their system, it was bought there in 1989. (No surprise, it's the most known and biggest mb dealer here in Hungary).

Ordered a key for about USD20. I need to wait for 2 weeks until its done.

Ignition locks usually fail on 190s during their first 270k km miles, so I really hope that the ignition key was replaced, and not the other 3 locks.
And also hope that there will be at least one of the 3 that is still the original!

I'll keep you posted about the story when its here.

THanks for the help guys, you're awesome!!!

If I'm lucky, my ignition barrel is replaced sometime ago, and I've no problem with having different keys for the doors and the ignition.

Extra security layer!

Solved!!!

Just received the key from Mercedes, and tried it.
Unfortunately none of the locks opened with the factory key.
I then thought, that these locks haven't seen a key for decades, so I tried lubricating the locks with plenty of WD40 and moving the key for all possible directions back and forth for a long time, and finally my new key starts working on the passanger's side door lock!!!
So I'm happy now, that I have a backup solution if my remote fob weren't open the car, I can get inside by opening the central at the passanger's door.

Thanks a lot for the tip, it finally really worked, and the cheapest solution!!!
(The key was about 20 USD and was arrived within 2 weeks.)

Problem solved, case closed!
