Question on Pelican's procedure of front door lock removal
Pelican Mercedes-Benz Tech Article - Removing Your Front Door Lock - C230 / E320 / S320 / ML320 / CLK320 / SLK320
The procedure said to be applicable to W203, W210, W220, W208 and R170. In figure 6, it suggests that the Window Regulator must be removed to give sufficient space to get the door lock out. To remove Window Regulator, we also need to detach the glass from the Window Regulator. Seems quite troublesome if we just want to take out the door lock... Anyone has prior experience on the front door lock on any above chassis? Any tricks that we can take out the door lock without removal the window regulator? |

Detaching the glass from the regulator was not that big of an issue when I replaced the regulator on my 420SEL. Not sure about the door lock though.

On the W210, I didn't need to remove the window regulator.

Probably a little late, but I'll add just in case someone else ever needs same info.
Spent the weekend replacing both front doors on daughters c240 because of rust. Bought the car with rusted doors and found 4 matching doors locally. Instructions posted on this site were perfect. After removing the 3 screws securing the lock and the IR or locking cylinder, the locking mechanism must drop and rotate about 90 degrees then lowered out of main access hole. There will simply be no room to remove it with the window and regulator installed. Some rivets will be easy to drill out, others are a weird type of flared rivet that had to be ground off with a die grinder. If using a drill, heed the caution regarding drilling out rivets with glass installed. I did punch through one rivet and nicked the glass; luckily no breakage. |
