R170 fuel pressure check valve

'98 SLK 230 takes long time to crank, checked fuel pressure and it drops within 10-15 seconds of shutting the engine off.
I've search online and have not found any mention of a fuel pressure check valve.
Is the valve located in the 'expensive' fuel pump?
