sirius/xm retrofit

i have a 2006 215 coupe. it has every option but satellite radio.

i would like to add that to this car.

my benz dealer tells me that at one time, i could have done that.

but now, benz will not supply the parts.

anyone know how i might acquire the parts to add that satellite reception to the oem radio/cd player?

thank you

Prime Service Center in Hyannis Mass. shows the kit you need in stock. As far as I can tell it's the only one in the country. The part number is B67830004. List price is about $1500.00

I retrofitted the Sirius receiver into my 06 E-class by purchasing the needed parts from a recycler. I think I paid $150 for the whole set-up, you'll need the receiver box, antenna, bracket to hold the receiver, a couple of fiber optic lines and a small power harness. You also need access to a SDS machine to inform the Command system that a sirius receiver is now in the fiber optic loop.

On a scale of 1-10 its about "2" job. There are certainly more inexpensive ways to have access to SAT radio but it's hard to beat the convenience of having the integrated command system.

Sirius is addictive, since I got my system working I think I've listened to about 3 minutes of conventional radio. If I were an AM/FM broadcast station owner I'd be a bit worried about my future markets.

apparently that kit in prime doesn't contain all the parts that are required.

it is about half of what is needed according to my research.

i just don't understand why m-b has removed these parts. makes little sense to me.

i never thought that i would care about sirius/xm radio, then i acquired a 2008 porsche cayenne turbo with that option. that changed my mind. suddenly i could acccess jazz, opera, any time i wanted it. and like you, i left fm radio.

i acquired a 2006 cl55 in 2010. it had sat radio.

i had a 2006 cl500, it did not have it as o.e. at that time, as an option, it cost $600.

as i recall, in 2010, the components were available from m-b for $3400.

i solved the problem. bought another 2006 cl500 with all the options. sold the one that had only keyless go.

the inexplicable mystery for me is this: why did m-b sell these cars with options?

in the pre-2000 era, all sonderklasse benzes came with all options. did m-b really think its customers at that end of the market would not buy them unless they were "strippers"?
