Battery replacement tips "01 W210 E-320

I need to replace the battery in my '01, W210, E-320 4-Matic wagon. Price and selections are not an issue at this time. I can buy at cost from the dealer or from Interstate. But I understand there is a sequence for resetting the power window switches. Who knows this procedure? TIA! Dennis

Posted lots of places. Use to be in OM in 98. Now? At some point (W211 - 2003?) a second battery was added which maintained voltage. You can attach a 9v battery to charging pin under hood. Won't work with cigar lighter on MB.

Windows express feature - open each window part way then close and continue to hold the button for 4 seconds before releasing. Test express feature and repeat if necessary.
Sunroof - open part way then close and continue to hold the button for 4 seconds before releasing.
Radio - Enter your code following the procedure in the Radio manual. Varies by radio model. Be careful as a mistake causes a wait cycle and the countdown only takes place with the ignition on.

FYI - If you call 1-800-FOR-MERCedes they will come to your house or work and install an MB battery, reset everything and recycle your old battery. That should also qualify you for 18mos of MB roadside assistance. A lot of MB owners have gotten 7-8 years out of MB batteries. Aftermarket 3-4 years is common.

Most of the one's I've seen are the plug in the cigar lighter style which doesn't work since MB's cigar lighter is turned off with the key. But if they have one designed to use under the hood it should work.

If you are just a little handy, get a battery connector for 9v (looks like a plastic piece with maie/female snaps and two wires, some wire and a couple of alligator clips. Solder it up, add a 9v battery and connect under the hood.

A 210 has posts underhood for connecting jumper cables. It's quite easy to use those to power up the car while changing the battery (it's under the rear seat). Just connect cables to another battery - car, motorcycle, etc. No need to have the other vehicle running. This will save having the reset the windows, radio, etc. - though I don't think it's any less work.

The 2nd battery was introduced with the w211 chassis. It doesn't buy you anything when changing the main battery - it's electrically isolated when the car is switched off.
