1989 124 power seat switch

OK, this should be the easiest task on the car, yet I have managed to trip over it. To start with, while reclining the drivers seat back all the way down, I managed to break the switch with my ever delicate touch. A small round plastic piece about a 1/4" long came out.

I searched here and the only reference to removing the switch said while removing the surround trim, to just pull the control knobs off. Mine will not pull off, I've already exerted way too much force, almost to the point of snapping it off, so either this is not right or some P.O. has epoxied them on, which with what I've found so far in other areas, could be possible.

What am I doing wrong here? Thanks.

Ah, I found the problem, via ebay part view, they do not pull off, bad bit of info there. I should have thought to look there, I obviously need a manual.
