Gas Tank Capacity in Question

My 98 ML320 has, on occasion, taken more than 20 gallons of gas to get it filled, and in every occasion I drove into the station under power. the owner's manual states capacity at 19 gallons, which includes the reserve.

Of course, the reserve light was on but I do a lot of local driving within walking distance of a gas station. My fueling is done at reputable stations, and I even got Sam's Club to refund the price of a gallon once!

Has anyone else experienced this? I am aware the fuel tank can be distorted, but have never experienced any pressure releases in the 10 years I have owned it.

They probably don't count the filler neck in the size of the tank. You can get an extra gallon in most of them.

Yep sometimes 2 extra gallons can added. Nothing to worry about.
