What's the verdict on defeating 2nd gear starts>>

I'm still wondering what's the easiest way to do this, I know you can swap out the valve body, but that's a ridiculous expense. Eli.

clearly the "easiest" way to defeat a 2nd gear start (if so equipped) is to utilize the shifter and slide over to "B"

then:
you have option of upshifting w/ speed+++ OR
upshift immed and let the trans do the shifting

Have you tried just hot-wiring the switch under the accelerator pedal? Or, converting it to an under-dash toggle switch so you can select/deselect at will?

Just a thought

not sure of the exact info needed, but with my '91 300e, i just shift to first when stopped and back to second, or normal and it then starts off in first.

if not equipped with a "B" Switch ont he shifter, try putting it in 2, then back to D when you are at a light. it should start off in 1st gear.

My 1992 300Ce has 1st gear start always.

I appreciate the suggestions on using the shifter, but the whole idea of an auto is not to get involved in shifting while you're on the phone or out cruising with a drink in your hand. Also, my other car is a stick and i get enough shifting all week long.

I remember a post a while ago about a little electronic gizmo to accomplish this, does anybody know how it was done? Thanks again. Eli.
