I read that the 450SL series had a recall regarding subframe cracks. Can anyone shed some detailed information about this and whether the recall is still in effect? We are in Australia.

IN THE GOOD OLE U.S.A. THERE IS A GOVERNMENT AGENCY CALLED D.O.T. (DEPT OF TRANSPORTATION). THEY LOOK OUT FOR U.S. DUMMIES. ON ALL 450SL'S IMPORTED BY M.B.N.A.
THEY HAVE SENT "SAFETY RECALL" NOTICES TO OWNERS OF THESE CARS TO HAVE SUBFRAME INSPECTED & REPLACED IF CRACKED, CARS W/O CRACKS WERE TO BE MODIFIED! THIS RECALL HAPPENED IN "1985", MANY YEARS AGO. |

As MBDOC said, If you own an affectd car, and the subframe is cracked or unmodified, you will get it repaired for free at your local dealer. ALL PEOPLE NEED TO REGISTER WITH US!! IT'S COOL. AND WE WILL KNOW WHO YOU ARE!
