Yet another idle problem
I have read through old posts on high idle and could not find one that matches. My 87 300E out of nowhere started idling at 1500. At times she will surge from 1k to 1.5k. Sometimes she will back down to 500 where she normally ran and surge back and forth to 1.5k. I do not have any performance or cold start problems and this happens from the moment she starts up. Makes no difference whether she's cold or hot. I am not that familiar with this engine as I recently purchased the car. I did check the fuse on the OVR and replaced it though it metered fine. I also read in an old post that on an 87, the idle would not be high with a bad relay. HELP! Where do I start?

CLean your idle control valve!
There was a recent post about cleaning your idle valve and then using some WD 40.
Do a search under idle control valve.

This may sound stupid but can someone tell me where the idle control valve is on a 87 300E?
Thanks, |

Don't know if I did it right or not - but it worked for me. On my560sel my idle was fluctuating up and down. I pulled the electrical plug from the idle valve and the idle speed went up and was perfect - no fluctuation. Hooking up the connector again - the surging came back and the idle tried to go down. I took the valve out and really cleaned it with brake cleaning spray (stonger than carb cleaner) and flushed and flushed until it was clean inside. I let it dry and sprayed it inside with a silicone spray. Problem went away. Like I say - worked for me - hope it is of some help to you.

Thanks guys. I'll pick up a can of cleaner and tackle tonight. Hopefully that's all it is.

forward from the fuel distributor with a electrical plug and two rubber hoses on each side.
Good luck and let us know what happen!
