W210 Rear-view Mirror Removal

Hi All:

I popped the rear-view mirror down and out of my 98 e320 wagon and there is was, hanging by its wire. It seems like it should be easy to simply unplug the wire, but the connection is quite buried up above, and there isn't enough room to get my fingers in there to do it. It looks like it is connected into the driver's side of the housing that carries the dome-lights. Does that housing drop down? Is that how the rear-view mirror is to be unplugged? If so, how do I do that? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

The wires simply unplug. There is the connector for the auto dimming mirror that is separate from the other connector, but you should just be able to unplug them. If not, you could try to separate the mirror. The bottom part with the red and green light has to come out first which it's held in place by 4 tabs, the bottom portion is also the part that holds the connectors. Good luck

unplug

ok, i'll reach in there with a pair of needle-nose pliers and try to use the wires to pull the plug out. it's blind, though. and, i'm not sure how i'll be able to get the replacement plug in because i can't even see the existing plug. there is no room and no visibility. very un-mb-like.

thanks though

Take out the overhead console to disconnect the plug.
