722.4 governor/secondary pump ???
Hi all! Daughters 91 190e will not upshift. Fluid is great, no metal in pan. Found governor driven gear sheared. Also governor seems to be binding when trying to turn by hand. I suspect something has gone south in the secondary pump. Ive found a post where MB Doc advocated just removing the pump gears. Ive also read where a spring/punger from valve body can be injested (apparently) into the pump. Does anyone have a definitive work around on that secondary pump???? I dont see tow starting in the cars future...lol

The 722.3 ( lager capacity 4 speed ) and 722.5 ( larger capacity 5 speed ) are very similar / share some parts with your .4 so I'd have a look there too.
Later trans supposedly did not have a rear pump so swapping a later gov cover might be the most direct route if you have damage. I had thought rear pumps went away prior to 91. ( like after 86 ) Generally governors have springs / weights tuned to the car so you might have some shuffling there. |
