Angry W124 Drive Belt

The drive belt on my 1988 260E broke and needs to be replaced. I bought a new belt, but I haven't the slightest clue where to start. I searcehd the forum and didn't find anything. Is this one of those things where I need to take it in?

Matt

Are you taking about the serpentine belt or the timing chain when you say 'drive belt'? Your owners manual is actually a good place to start. On my W124 (1994), the owners manual has a layout of how and where the serpentine belt gets installed. As far as what to loosen up to install- I don't know off hand. Many posts about such DIY jobs in this forum.

The fan clutch and fan will have to come off. Stahlwill 8mm allen type socket gets the bolt out of the fan clutch. Special tool keeps the fan from moving. Locks in behind the fan assembly. Some have used a home-made approach for this tool.

19mm bolt in front of belt tensioner must be loosened. 13mm socket loosens tensioning bolt on tensioning rod.

As was suggested above, owners manual has belt routing diagarm.

Check archives. This has been discussed many times.
