1994 e320 will not start

My 94 e320 sedan will not start. I have thought it was my neutral safety switch as for awhile now I have had to start it in neutral some of the time. Not every time but often after sitting overnight I would often have to put it in neutral and it would start. Then most of the day it would start with no problem.

When it did start I've noticed a different sound upon starting. Not really sure how to explain it but it sounded softer than it had prior. (This makes no sense to me at all unless it is starter solenoid related or the ignition switch.?)

I have jumped the NSS and still nothing. I am going to put a charge on it but it is a new battery. The battery seems fine as when turning the key the lights stay bright and the warning beeps and buzzes are all present. I am going to check the battery voltage. Wondering about the starter connections and the alternator if it turns out the battery was low.

I have 300,000 miles on the car and at around 200,000 I replaced the NSS.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
