W126 Door mirror

Hi all -

I've got a W126 (1989 560SEL) that I am swapping the driver's side door mirror. The original one was damaged by someone.

I found a good one and know how to put it in, however, the glass in the older one is in better shape. I want to swap the glass and service the adjustment mechanism. I know that on these mirrors the glass does not just pop out, there is a wire spring I need to remove.

I've seen the service video on **************.com on how to restore the the adjustment mechanisms of the older mirrors, but it turns out these later mirrors are different.

Here is the problem: I am stuck now at removing the rubber boot that surrounds the entire folding mechanism. This is the dark rubber part that the three screws that hold the mirror to the door go through, it surrounds the entire door-side base of the mirror. I see a black pin of some sort, but I can't seem to get it out. I don't want to break any parts.

Has anyone restored one of these yet? I seem to find no documentation on these, not even on the Mercedes CD.

Thanks!
