Newbie with W124

Hello Everyone,
I searched here over a year ago when I purchased our "new" W211 '08 E320 Bluetec to get any input of risks and failures, etc. Great car, small issues so far a 141k and didn't find many complaints here either.

I've now joined for another reason.

We are new owners of a W124 '95 E320 cabriolet. My wife wanted a red convertible and I stumbled across it cheap, so I thought. I have torn out the seats for re-upholstery and uncovered all sorts of "goodies". Under the back seat on passenger side is a module that was unplugged, part# 140 820 25 26. After Googling it, name is Seatbelt Retractor Module, sounds important, and expensive. it appears to be common on several models from '94 through '99.

What does it do?
I am curious if anyone has failure experience with this part?
Can I leave it unplugged?

I could not find anything searching the forum.

Expect more questions, and, as I work on it, hopefully info I can provide to assist others.

Great sight! Glad I found the forum where MB owners have grease under the nails.

Thanks in advance!
Brian

It sounds like the controller for the arms that extend to "hand" the seatbelt to the front-seat passengers so that you do not need to reach back to the seatbelt.

Coupe and Cabriolet only.

Thanks for the info. The systems are currently powered down unit I have the seats back from upholstery. When I install the fronts I'll test it. I'll let you know.

72junky, recommend leaving the seatbelt presenters as-is. Typically the presenters confuse folks unfamiliar with them, and are more of a nuisance than anything else. I own a 1991 300CE and pulled the fuse so the presenters don't operate.
