Front Brake Pad wearing fast
Hey guys,
Historically my front brake pads have lasted me about 50-60k total. My driver side brake started pulsating and the brake pad has worn down to the backing. This is with 31k on them. The inner pad has more life on it, but the outer pad is completely gone. Need some advice on what to do? Do I just replace the pads, clean and regrease the sliding areas on the caliper (which to be honest I have neglected doing) and check it every 10k miles and see if it repeats? Rebuild the calipers on both sides?

Which car are you referring to? If it's the 300te you need to make sure that the pins inside the rubber boots on the caliper are sliding easily. If the pins are binding it can cause uneven pad wear.

My 300TE.
I've never touched the sliding pins since owning the car so I'll check that out thanks.

ps2cho, you must use other than MB brake pads to get 50-60k miles out of front brake pads, unless you do primarily highway driving where you don't use the brakes very often. With Textar brake pads I normally get about 20k miles out of front brake pads ... rears might last 50k miles.
Check if you have a stuck piston in the driver's side caliper. A warped rotor would cause the pulsations ... likely due to overheating because the outer brake pad is not releasing, and you have metal-to-metal contact. Apparently you don't have wear sensors on all 4 front brake pads.

Right. The sensors are only on the inner pad on my model.
I do a lot of freeway and use Textar pads.

I switched to Akebono pads on my CL's and have had little if any dust and a lot less brake fade. Nothing else for me from now on.

I'm using centric ceramic pads this time, they are superior to autozone ceramics. No dust at all,I do clean all sliding surfaces for brakes, and light coat of vasaline.

You have a heavy wagon and 8 hole wheels already so swap 4 pot caliper on it. The pads are about 30% larger and you'll never have to worry about slide pins again.
