Question What year model 124(s) did I see?

Yesterday at a local golf course, I saw a 300E and a 500E parked sided by side. (Both were from Houston county, Engatwork). The 500 E was a dark chocolate/burgandy color and looked great with black tailights and Euro headlights. I had never seen a 500 before and was duly impressed! The 300 was a plain brown but looked to be in good shape. Two questions, the 500 E had white face guages. Were these standard or even available? And the 300 had chrome strips on top of the front and rear bumpers. What year had those or were they aftermarket?

The lights on the 124.036 500E (w124) are standard equipment on the 94-95 (w124) they appear to be Euro's but are OEM Benz headlight. As far as the other 300 goes, it is a 90 - up (W124).

White face gauges are non-OE.

1990 brought the Stainless Steel strips atop the bumper covers and a thin strip along the car's side, at the top of the lower body cladding; this was common to the entire W124 line, from 300D thru 500E (which became available in 1992, along with the 400E)

As to headlights, all E500s ('94 was the first year in the US with the new name; '92-'93 they were called 500E) as well as other '94 E-class models had E-code looking headlights, although they are DOT-spec. Earlier cars had the 2 piece lens setup.

Yesterday on the freeway, I saw a silver 92 or 93 500E. A middle-aged lady was driving it.

The car also had clear corners.

Very unusual.

I found two 1993 500E cars on Autotrader locally. (just for research, mind you) and both are asking 32 to 34 thousand dollars!! Are these things really worth that kind of money?
