Placed headlight washers/wipers on separate switch!
On my W126 420SEL, I finally got around to installing a separate push-button switch for the headlight wipers/washers. I found a large push-button switch like this...
http://d2ydh70d4b5xgv.cloudfront.net/images/d/5/ac-250v-3a-black-round-cap-momentary-push-button-horn-switch-5-pcs-for-auto-dcf42ffcde98fceb60cd16f13e5bf241.jpg ...and drilled a hole just to the right of the headlight switch. Just barely fits in the blank area there. (Remove headlight switch, then unscrew large nut behind that, and the black plastic piece comes out and you can see where a switch will fit.) Then I ran the two wires from the switch to the fuse box under the hood and cut the power wires going to the headlight wiper/washer relay. Rewired them to an ignition on fuse. (One wire [violet] originally went to ignition on, the other [grey] to headlight on power.) Before when the headlight washer was connected to the window washer, I would go through window washer fluid quickly. With the headlight wipers separate, the washer fluid lasts a long time. Also I only use the headlight wipers/washer for spraying friends walking by the front of my car. The headlights never need cleaning. Now I can more quickly spray them as I just need to have the ignition on, not the headlights. |
