94 E320 surge

First thanks for all the excellent information in this Forum!

I have a 94 E320 with surge. I have replaced the wiring harness (by dealer). The car has been sitting for two years because of this but I want to repair it now.

This weekend I changed the plugs and coil boots, cleaned the MAS, intake and throttle body and it's still surges.

Now when the surging first stated it was a hot day and the a/c stopped blowing cold at the same time the surge started. Now the a/c works fine. It surges all the time with the a/c off. Most of the time with I turn on the a/c it stops surging and idles smooth, then when I turn the a/c off again it immediately starts to surge again. Turniing on the a/c does not allways stop the surging, but truning it off (with a smooth idle) always starts the surging. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Build the fault code reader and read the codes - should be something there. Try a search on fault code reader.

Damn the surge!

Idle surge turns into stumble, damn!

MAFS and O2 sensor?

I gotta figure this out before my wife gets T boned pulling into traffic.

Threat of getting T boned is exactly why I took mine out of service! Those engines really do produce some nice torque!

Why would my AC settings effect surge??

I will check the codes.

I don't know, my A/C doesn't seem to effect it, nothing seems to effect it. It's erradict, inconsistent, and doesn't seem to be linked to anything in particular.

And if the O2 sensor is causing it why isn't my gas mileage cut in half? Everytime I've ever seen an O2 sensor go out it is very obvious because your wallet gets very light.

Well it wasn't the oxygen sensor but my oxygen sensor was corroded and would have become a problem in the not too distant future so I'm glad I replaced it. $107 for the sensor. I think I will look at the MAFS next but I really think it might be a vacuum leak.

I am going to buy a MAS and Oxy sensor. Where a good place to go for these (good pricing)? I heard about ebay, is it ok? One guy there is just selling the MAS insert part that screws into the housing.

I'm looking for a MAFS right now, haven't found anything good yet. I called some people I know at Bosch but no luck yet.

I just bought the O2 sensor from the import car parts store down the street from me.

Does oxygen sensors.com have free shipping with orders over a certain amount?

Look at the top of the page. Fastlane is a sponsor of this site and has most anything for a Mercedes at great prices.
