W124 E320 bad idle and HFM-Code 035
Hello from germany,
my name is Elmar, I´m from germany and I have trouble with my car. I have a model year 1994 E320 Convertible USA (California-Model) which has bad idle that always goes up and down around 700-850 RPM. Even worse, if I shift from "P" to "D" or "R", the car jumps around then. Starts to run bad if the coolant temperature is around 50°C and get´s more and more worse the warmer the car is getting. I always read trouble code 035 "O2 system operating at rich limt, mixture too lean". I use HFM-Scanner and the O2-Sensor does not seem to operate, it is always 180mV, Lambda Operation is at maximum 25%. So I replaced the O2 Sensor without any effect, problem is still present. I always notive an air sound - you may also hear it in my video: http://www.verdeckmotor.de/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/IMG_1853.wmv I checked the OVP-Relay, the relays inside are very hot and there were some bad solder joints I fixed but without any effect, the relays inside are getting hot, only when the car is operated. Fuse is 15 Amps and okay, Part Number is 0005406745. I have no idea what to do next - test equipment is present. ANy ideas? Thank you from germany Elmar |

is the wiring in good condition, they are known to flake off.

I had a similar problem in my car which drove me and my mechanic nuts. Until a friend told me to check the fuel pump relay. That turned out to be the problem. In my case, we would hear the fuel pump start up and so we assumed the relay was ok but is was not. It jhad a bad solder point. I was told that when that relay goes bad, a lot of strange things start happening. Erratic, idling, cruise control problems and so on. Hope this helps.

02 sensor stuck at 180mV? Check for a vacuum leak. Look closely at the vacuum lines at the intake manifold between cylinders 2 and 3........
