overhead lights coming on and won't cut off
While I'm dealing with my fuel leak issues I also have an electrical problem i need to address on my 99 E300TD. A while back I was driving at night and my overhead light came on randomly. It would not turn off and I had to disconnect the battery to get the bulb to cool down long enough so I could remove it. It seemed to resolve itself for a while and now it has started again. When I close the doors and lock the car it stays on draining my battery. I can open the car door and press the overhead light button which turns off the light, but as soon as I shut the door it comes back on and stays on. Does my suspicion that one of the light buttons on the door has gone bad sound likely? Any tips on how to diagnose which one? Also, is there a fuse I can pull that will cut off power to only the overhead lights and nothing else?

IIRC the dome light times out if you leave a door open so more is going on than a stuck door switch. Maybe a problem with the overhead switch. Do all the courtesy lights come on or just the dome light? Does the dome light come on and stay on if you set the dome light switch to full off so it doesn't come on when you open a door?

you can try to isolate which door pin switch by taping a small coin opposite the
pin. this serves to depress the switch more when the door is closed. do this one at a time for each door until the anomaly vanishes. sometimes another anomaly accompanies this problem: auto door locks when more than 19 mph. when rough road conditions are encountered, the door locks un/lock in phantom line fashion. i believe the driver's door is the one most likely to encounter this problem as it is the one most often used, thus accelerated wear to that door pin/switch occurs p.s. to identify which fuse, check your fuse map which should be beneath the rear seat, tucked within the fuse cluster. there may be one in the fuse block on the left side of your dash but specific for that fuse cluster. my guess for your car is #4 under the rear seat
