Ignition Cables/Connectors question...
I got a set of ignition cables supposedly correct fit for my M104 but they're all too short by 15-20cm- I want to make some correct length ones up with new cable.
I've taken the coil end boot assembly apart ok, but the spark plug connector seems more difficult- rubber boot comes off fairly easily, but does anyone know how these type come apart to get to the wire connector inside the insulator- unscrew? Pull harder?! Thanks...

The original Mercedes wires unscrew.
Remember to buy non-resistive wire or send them back and get the proper ones. Edit: There are 2 different wire sets for the 104.992 engine depending on the engine number. Later ones are longer so you have a set for the earlier engines. Return them. Last edited by Rick76; 03-07-2017 at 01:39 PM. |

Thanks, yeah these are aftermarket Bremi. They were stupidly cheap as Amazon 'add ons' so not really worth returning, I figured I'd give them a shot as they were on offer...

chazola, IMO best to use Beru ignition wires if they are available.

What changed on the engine? I know there is a difference between valve covers / coil cover between early / late but I don't see that making a difference. The only difference I know of is 91 ish M104 300sl / 300 CE had a distributor and later cars had 3 coils on 3 plugs and 3 wires running to the other 3. |

The HT leads the first chap refers to must be for the earlier system with one coil, a distributor and leads. To whom I say, "Throw away the Bremi stuff and but the Beru lead set suggested above". My Beru set is still going strong after more than 5 years. You could, of course, make up a complete lead set from the individual parts bought from MB. That, combined with ALL MB HT PARTS would be the best overall solution. Do make sure the cap, rotor and rear shield are in the best possible condition and, preferably, MB original. All the best. They are screw off on the m103 ,.Problem making them up is the part that is fixed on to the end of the lead its crimped on .You can if your lucky get the screw crimps .But the tool to fix them on to the leads is expensive .Over here in brexit land the crimp tool costs £269 Do a google on them i did lots of information on how they are put together. As i was going to make my own. Gave up in the end and picked a new set of Beru up from Amazon uk

I suspect that the wire routing changed early in production. Length for cylinder 1 changed from 490mm to 550, cylinder 3 from 240 to 350 and cylinder 5 changed from 430 to 550 mm. Wire ends at plug and coil also changed. |
