Unhappy Can't find the diagnostic module!!

96 SL500 R129 M119. I hooked up my star diagnostics and it would not talk to the car, ok it's old so maybe star wont work. So I tried my old reliable Carsoft 7.4 which always worked on this car. Not this time it would not show any of the cars modules. Ok this is weird so I plugged in the old snap-on brick and it said the diagnostic module was not communicating. Finally a culprit!!!
Looked it up on EPC and it shows 015 545 04 32 replaced by 015 545 29 32 in the apparatus case.
opened it up and its not there ??? checked star finder and there is a picture of it next to the engine main ECU in the apparatus case............not on my car!
Any one know where this module is located? Pictures enclosed

Johnflight1,
I glanced at the MY96 wiring diagram and found no listing for a diagnostic module. Found ME, ESP and the base module which has the fuses on top next to your ME. ME should be in charge of its diagnostics. I would first check F1f37 7.5amp fuse, supplies power to the diagnostic x11/4 socket. F1 is the fuse box left rear engine compartment Best wishes

fuses good

Checked fuse F-37 in the F-1 box it tests good, and when running it has voltage on both sides of the fuse. Could the ME computer be bad? or just the part of it that allows other modules to be read thru the 38 pin connector. I do have a spare ME computer. Is it a major hassle to code it with star? I have coded other units but never a ME ecu ...........................
