The 129 had a 722.6 in '96? I thought it was still a 722.5.

According to the maintenance booklet that came with car
Getriebe 722620 0 0006626. I would like to hear from someone who has used a particular scanner on this transmission. I have looked at various advertisements and I haven't seen any that guarantee compatibility. I'm looking in the $100-$200 range.

Whatever you decide to get make sure it can read actual values, not just fault codes..........

96 was the intro year for 722.6 on the SL and S class.

Be aware that 96 and some very early 97 cars had valve body and TCM recalls. If you mix and match parts there will be issues.

For the trans scanner, you need one that plugs in to the 38 pin connector, the under dash OBD won't talk to the trans.

I doubt you will find anything in the 100 to 200 range.

mrboca on benzworld says he can get this - http://wwe.ebay.com/itm/322538477298 - to work on early 722.6 cars but all it did is kill the OVP module in my wagon. Car was running but it wouldn't connect to SDS until I replaced the module. I had connected to SDS prior to trying autocom.
