Are Gates Serpentine Belts Of Good Quality?

Gates 6pk2390 for 2003 C240 W203

I am wondering if Gates is a good quality belt, enough to work as expected or just stick with Bosch?

Gates are generally very good belts, and are the only V belts I'll buy given a choice for many years now. I'm sure the serpentine ones are fine.

Jay, I recommend CRP-Contitech serpentine belts.

Conti V belts became iffy about ten years ago, quit using them.
I have one perticular very demanding application that will separate the men-belts from the boy-belts pretty quickly and it was quite notable.
They used to be very good.
Haven't had any trouble from their
timing belts yet.

FWIW I have several Gates V belts near at hand, they are all stamped Made In USA on the belt itself, that may not apply to serpentine belts, it's a big world out there. Not that country of origin seems to matter too much these days, I've seen some mighty crappy made in USA belts from the McParts stores.

Gates is a big, high quality name in belts, hoses selling products far beyond the auto parts line.

Generally, Gates is # 1 in the US , Dayco a very close / equal # 2 mostly because they don't have the product depth of Gates.

I'm pretty sure Dayco makes a low cost line so be sure you are getting high end Dayco when buying parts.

The Goodyear name is just a licensed to a belt maker. I " think " Continental recently bought the " Goodyear " belt line but not the naming rights.

As for auto parts chain store branded belts, they are likely Dayco unless really low line but the NAPA stuff might be Gates.

Gates and Dayco belts are both quite good. Quality of the Conti belts dropped off a while back as wolf says, probably due to their outsourcing. I've had two Conti serpentine belts shred for no apparent reason in recent years (on two different cars).

I wonder of Conti's old supplier had issues / closed and was the cause of lower quality and the reason they bought the Goodyear belt line.
