How to get head bolts off
What's the best way to get head bolts off factory engine
450 sl v8 that has never been off. They are stuck from heat etc never been off. |

I'm not sure about the V8's but all the MB engines I've worked on have stretch bolts. They are really tough to get loose and maybe tougher to retorque, using the proper angle torque method. You will need to get a manual for your engine before going back together.
You will need the correct tool that fits the bolts properly. This is available as a MB tool, but a friend of mine found a set at an auto store that had about three different sizes and one of them fit perfectly. Much less expensive than the MB tool. Use the correct socket, a long breakover bar and plenty of oomph. They'll come loose. Good luck, |

Larry's right. That part about the correct tool is critical. Headbolts ain't the place to improvise!! I got mine from Snap On.

For some reason you shouldn't be able to get it off with some "oopmhhh" , you can resort to a torch and heat it. CAREFULLY !!

I was at shop the tech had to breal the heads of 3 bolts
and was going to heat a few of the ones on the inside it was tough to get bolts off/. He had spent 2 days trying.
Ugh! |

ballpean hammer and penetrating oil...spray on, tap, spray on, tap, spray on, tap.......do this 5-6 times then let it sit overnight.
