1989 190E idle and running problems

Was hoping someone could help I've purchased a 1989 190 E . the problem I'm having is I can start the car and it idles ,but around 1600 to 2000 rpm ,then if I give it any gas pedel it immediately shuts off, also when idleing after about three minutes there's a piping sound in the exhaust .the motor is the 2.6 L straight 6

Richard first i would check all the fuses .Swap them for ceramic and copper if you have the white metal type change them all .Next check your earth points from engine to body clean up and grease, then refit them .Check all the vacuum pipes you can find for broken or split rubber fittings ,replace if you find any . Do you know the last time when the plugs,,,, ht leads,, distributor top ,,and the rotor arm were changed ?. This may help you . Come back after you check these out .
