I would look at the wiring harness inside the mirror. I have had two 96-97 140 cars with the harnesses totally bare of insulation.

That is bound to screw with the conveniece controller.

You just take off the triangle from the inside and you will see the screws. Take them off and unplug the unit.

Did the wires have insulation on them. These are the wires inside the mirror itself not the wires in the door.

By convenience module I am refering the whichever module in that car that handles memory for the functions you say are missing. Your car is to old for all the functions to be tied to the key (smart key started in 98).

Steve,
The wires looked brand new. I did notice that in the past when folding the mirrors out that they would appear stuck and the steering wheel would tilt down at the same time. I'm starting to think that the car wash was a coincidence and the problem was preexisitng. I have an appointment with the dealer but would like to fix this myself if possible.

Unhappy

RW, I'm having a similiar problem with my 320 also. Drivers side mirror worked fine but pass. side glass seemed to be stuck.
Had my mechanic take a look, now nothing. NO power to either side AND my tele. steering wheel no longer does anything. Checked the fuse and it was ok. I'm wondering if there maybe is a
relay somewhere that could be bad. If you find a solution please post!! I have to get this fixed!!

Good Luck

The module that controls the mirrors and the steering column is the MSC module (Mirror/Steering Column) N32/9. It is in direct contact with the L. Front ESA module (electronic seat module). I say this as I'm not sure they have separate self diagnostics. It would be nice to inquire to see what the controller thinks of matters.

Short of such access one might be able to reset the MSC controller by pulling fuse 30 in F3 and holding it for a few seconds before replugging. Doing this will loose all memories including your settings. Check the owners manual for the initializing instructions if necessary.

Steve, I have tried removing fuse 30 and putting back but the functions still did not return. How does one check the controller directly, Is this something my mechanic can handle or are their special diagnostic tools needed that only the dealer has? Thanks for the input!!

Regards

A scanner with full body functions probably will be necessary. If programming (variant coding) is necessary it will probably have to see a HHT or SDS (MBs factory scanner choices)

I was told by a tech that it is most likely the convience controller and that it is a simple plug in. Anyone know the part number and where it is located?
Thanks
RW
