What will tow a 560sel

I'm possibly getting a 560sel parts car but it is not driveable. will this car fit on a standard uhaul car trailer or should I just go with a dolly?

Talk to U-Haul, they would answer that for you, as they do not want to Jeopardize a couple thousand dollar piece of equipment for a fifty dollar rental. Details of wheel base in inches and total weight would be useful information for them, along with tow vehicle information. They may offer you a package. tow vehicle/trailer to get it done.

I just towed a '91 350SD last weekend on a standard U-Haul car transport with a V6 F-150. Their website approved it and I had no issue with the transport or the truck.

A dolly is likely to be smaller in width than a trailer, a trailer is much easier to deal with and can be backed up where a dolly can't. ( The ball and wheel pan pivot making for a messy backing up. )

How far do you need to go? If over 100 mi you can get a high mile / business rate. Something to know, company stores carry all equipment but independent stores generally only have box vans and small enclosed trailers in stock.

Don't reserve on line if you want to pick up at a independent store, go the the place and talk to them. I rented a truck for a 800 mile round trip. They only charged me for 1 day even though the pickup / return was 1 1/2 days , gave me a really good mileage rate and a new sub 2,000 mile truck.

They were a towing company / car lot and the owner was excited that I was picking up a frame machine for an interesting project.

I’ve towed my w210 diesel with the uhaul trailer it worked.. was heavy 6000+ pounds. As long as you have a descant tow rig and don’t tell Uhaul what your towing you should be ok.

They're cracking down on that now. When I rented my trailer last weekend not only did they have to inspect the tow vehicle and document it with photographs, but they required a license plate number or VIN number of the vehicle being towed.

I'm the king of half assing stuff. So I'll figure it out without them knowing. I just wanted to make sure the car would fit length/wheelbase wise.

Being honest won’t get you a uhaul trailer

Read the fine print. A local equipment yard has a 50 mile radius limit on trailer rentals. No mileage limit, just a radius limit. No Lojak on the trailer but better make sure your insurance is valid if you violate the rental agreement.

How do they verify a vehicle you’ve yet to collect?

And then if there is a crash, the insurance you bought is null and void. You will then be liable for repair / replacement of equipment and lost rental income while it is being repaired.

Well for me my insurance will cover it. I tow a lot so took out some extra coverage, but uhaul does offer an unconditional 100 percent paid insurance policy for a few bucks

I'd ask your insurance agent specifically if a crash related to non authorized use / overloading of a u haul truck and / or trailer is still covered. Ask if theft of u haul equipment / loss of rental income is covered.

Read the contract for details concerning overloading / not authorized use.

Per the u haul site:

All exclusions are explained in the Rental Contract and Document Holder.

Also per u haul , the coverage isn't 100 %

Safemove and Safemove Plus® are subject to exclusions set forth in the U-Haul rental contract addendum. Collision with an overhead object and cut, blown, or damaged tires are two specific exclusions not covered by Safemove or CDW.
